Alterman Law Group attends the Real Property, Trusts & Estates Section meeting in Puerto Rico

Two years after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, much has been repaired. Much work remains. The Real Property, Trusts & Estates Section of the American Bar Association was proud to support the recovery efforts by bringing our Fall Leadership meeting to San Juan this month.

Alterman Law Group contributed, in a small way, by sending our entire legal team to the conference. (That’s less grand than it sounds: our firm has two lawyers.)  The Puerto Rican people were as warm and inviting as the sandy beaches and the restaurants of San Juan, and they hope that their fellow Americans will again come to visit and enjoy the island.

There is no “slow claim” deed either

The evolution of our language has left some legal concepts with names that no longer reflect what they actually mean.  The Statute of Frauds doesn’t describe the crime of fraud. The Statute of Uses has nothing to do with land use.

Speech transcription is adding to the list: I am seeing more references to “quick claim deeds” instead of “quitclaim deeds.” They are no faster or slower than any other kind of deed; calling a deed “quick” doesn’t speed it up.
